U.S.-based divisions of Oxbow – a coal and petcoke shipper – on June 7 unveiled an antitrust suit against Union Pacific (UP) and Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) railroads, alleging illegal monopolization and price-fixing on rates.

Airlines Praise ASTM Move to Approve Bio-Jet-Fuel Spec

The Air Transport Association of America (ATA) on June 10 announced that it’s endorsing the ASTM International Committee on Petroleum Products and Lubricants decision to approve a new bio-jet-fuel specification that will “further enable the use of sustainable alternative fuels in aviation.”

U.S. EPA Proposes Minor Revisions to Diesel Urea-SCR ‘Guidance’

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced in the June 7 edition of the Federal Register that it’s seeking public comment on proposed “guidance” revisions covering urea (or “diesel exhaust fluid”) selective catalytic reduction (urea-SCR) systems used for highway diesel nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions control.

U.S. Department of Energy announced June 10 that it’s offering up to US$36 million to support the development of “drop-in” (all-hydrocarbon) biofuels or other bioproducts – including bio-based, all-hydrocarbon diesel and jet fuels – from non-food feedstocks including algae.

UT-Arlington Licenses Novel GTL Technology to 1st Resource

University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) announced June 2 that it signed a gas-to-liquids (GTL) license agreement with Fort Worth, Texas-based 1stResource, which is partnering with neighbor UMED Holdings on a proposed scheme for relatively small-scale Fischer-Tropsch (FT) jet fuel and diesel production from stranded gas wells.
