Enterprise and TEPPCO Agree to $3.3 Billion Merger
Enterprise Products Partners and TEPPCO have agreed to form the largest publicly traded energy master limited partnership (MLP) in the United States. The deal, which is expected to be accretive to fiscal year 2010 earnings, will also enable Enterprise to enter the potentially lucrative Marcellus shale play in the Northeast through TEPPCO’s operations and holdings.

The American Clean Energy and Security Act squeaked through the U.S. House with almost 20% of the Democrats there opposed to it. As it moves to the Senate it may face even more difficulty with opposition from senators representing energy producing states and the manufacturing rust belt are expected to at least demand changes.

A report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office found that seven U.S. downstream mergers between 2000 and 2007 resulted in very little to no impact on U.S. wholesale gasoline prices.
