For the 10th consecutive trading day, crude futures continue to climb Jan. 6. The price of West Texas Intermediate crude for February delivery settled at US$83.18 per barrel (bbl), registering a 1.72% gain from Jan. 5. Brent crude for February delivery increased 1.61%, to close at $81.89/bbl.

U.S. Sen. Jeff Bingaman, (D-N.M)., said there’s no consensus on what form a cap-and-trade system would take, but strong desire exists in the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives to pass other energy-related bills that would curb pollution blamed for global warming, according to the Associated Press.

API to Interior Secretary: Don’t Impose More Hurdles to Drill for Oil and Gas
American Petroleum Institute President and Chief Executive Officer Jack Gerard issued a statement in response to Interior Secretary Ken Salazar’s announcement that he would impose additional regulatory hurdles before allowing companies to drill for oil and gas on federal lands. Gerard said to stop further delays and additional hurdles.
