Sunoco Subsidiary Pays Cash for Virginia Coal Operations
SunCoke Energy, a subsidiary of the U.S.–based refiner and marketer Sunoco, Inc., announced on January 17 that it has purchased the Honaker, Va.-based Harold Keene Coal Co., Inc., its affiliated entities, and their related assets for about US$40 million in cash, including working capital. Coal reserve estimates for the assets of the entities being purchased total at least 16 million tons, and final estimates will be confirmed by a reserve study that is currently under way.

U.S.-based Elliott Group announced January 17 that it won a deal to supply compressor packages for the residue fluid catalytic cracker (FCC) and the crude oil distillation plant as part of the expansion at Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Company’s “Takreer” Ruwais refinery.

Strong Refining Margins Triple Essar Oil’s Quarterly Operating Earnings
Essar Oil Limited, among the Essar Group of companies, reported quarterly results on January 17 showing its operating earnings nearly tripled for the period ended December 31, 2010. “This growth can be attributed to increased GRMs (Gross Refining Margins),” the company said in an earnings statement. Along with the stellar operating results report, Essar’s chairman relayed plans for its refining segment in 2011.
